Annal Nayyar Blogs – Pupil premium payment dates that Academies need to be aware off.

Pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly-funded schools in England and provides funding for two policies:

  • raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and closing the gap with their peers
  • supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces

The grant is calculated and paid on a financial-year basis. Allocations for the grant will be confirmed in summer 2014, once pupil number data from the January 2014 census has been validated and agreed. The grant will be paid by EFA in quarterly instalments in July and October 2014, January and April 2015.

Pupil premium grant (PPG) is paid separately to GAG payments and separate remittance advice will be issued. Payments will be received into accounts on working day 4, each month:

4 July 2014

6 October 2014

6 January 2015

8 April 2015

Pupil premium grant (PPG) per pupil for the 2014 to 2015 financial year

Pupils in reception to year 6 recorded as Ever 6 FSM £1,300

Pupils in years 7 to 11 recorded as Ever 6 FSM £935

Children adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and children who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order £1,900

Service children

Pupils in reception to year 11 recorded as Ever 4 Service Child or in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence £300

PPG is paid to academies in quarterly instalments. The payment splits between EFA and local authorities (LA) for academies opening within year are:

100% from EFA for academies open at 1 April 2014

5/12 from LA and 7/12 from EFA for academies open May 2014 to September 2014

9/12 from LA and 3/12 from EFA for academies open October 2014 to December 2014

100% from LA for academies opened from 1 January 2015

Allocations for free schools and new academies that were not included in the January 2014 census will be calculated using the October 2014 census. A single payment will be made for the appropriate proportion of the allocation in April 2015.

A payment will be made to growing academies in April 2015. Growing academies are those academies who have added year groups after January 2014, as they were not fully open at January 2014. The calculation of payment is based on the difference, in the additional year groups, of eligible pupils between the October 2014 census and January 2014 census and multiplied by 7/12 to account for two terms of the financial year.
