The Office for Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) has announced some of the key features of new GCSEs in English language, English literature and mathematics to be introduced in September 2015. The new qualifications will have new content, and will be structured, assessed and graded differently from the current GCSEs.

Ofqual says thenew qualifications will be better to teach, better to study, better assessed, and more respected.

The new GCSEs will be linear and not broken up into modules. They will be assessed by examination at the end of the course, although non exam assessment may be used in maths

where an exam cannot provide a valid assessment of the skills required..
